HDD drilling project

For successful HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) projects it's crucial to use top-notch tricone roller drill bits, as these ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and safety. Given the unique characteristics of drilling, our metal seal bearing TCI tricone bits (available in sizes 5 1/2", 5 7/8", 6", 6 1/2") along with our premium PDC bits are perfectly tailored to fulfill these drilling needs. We eagerly await your informed selection.

It's worth noting that HDD is frequently linked with well exploration tasks. This technique is pivotal in onshore road crossings, nearshore pipeline installations, and precise offshore pipeline crossings. The latter especially requires meticulous alignment between two barges.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) offers a non-intrusive method to lay various underground utilities like pipes and cables without disturbing the surface. This technique finds extensive applications across water supply, electricity, telecommunications, and oil & gas sectors. Given its adaptability, HDD works effectively in diverse terrains, from sandy to clayey to pebbled grounds. Siruite aids in selecting the appropriate drill model based on the specific geology of the construction site.

Key Stages of the HDD Process:

Pilot Hole Drilling:

Utilizing a suitable bottom hole assembly (BHA), a narrow pilot hole is drilled from the surface. The BHA begins at the entry point, delving into the ground, adhering to a pre-defined trajectory that circumvents obstacles such as rivers, roads, tunnels, or railways. This phase culminates when the drill emerges at the pre-determined exit location.

Reaming:

Upon the successful completion of the pilot hole, this borehole is expanded to fit the designated product pipe. This enlargement involves a broader diameter BHA, which is reamed (either rotated while pulling or pushing) through the pre-drilled pilot hole. Depending on the intended diameter of the HDD borehole, this procedure might be executed in multiple phases or sizes.

Pipe Pull Back:

Post reaming, the actual product pipe is hauled into and positioned within the HDD borehole. This is achieved by affixing a pulling head to the product pipe's forefront and connecting it to the pullback mechanism. This assembly, along with the product pipe, is subsequently drawn into the HDD borehole using the HDD rig. The process is deemed complete when the assembly, coupled with the product pipeline, emerges on the surface at the rig end. Subsequently, the assembly is detached from the product pipe, paving the way for pipe tie-ins or subsequent operations.
